Every year, people give others various gift cards for Christmas, birthdays and other special occasions. Some people genuinely love receiving gift cards but for others, it’s not so special. It’s easy to understand why some individuals would truly prefer to have something else. If the card is directly associated with a particular business, you have to use the gift card at that business or you can’t use it at all. By the same token, you’re left with either choosing something that costs less than the total amount of the gift card and then having a few dollars left over that are unused, or spending some of your own hard-earned cash in order to cover the remaining cost not covered by the gift card. If that’s not bad enough, most of them have expiration dates associated with them. If you fail to use them during that time frame, you’re simply out of luck.
What are you supposed to do with a gift card that is associated with a business that you don’t shop at to begin with? Are you forced to go shop there or simply throw it away? You do have a few options available to you, although some options are better than others. You might choose to give that same card to someone else. Maybe you know someone that routinely shops there and would enjoy it. On the other hand, you could possibly put the cards up for sale on Facebook. The issue is that you’re not going to be able to charge someone 50 pounds for a gift card of the same value. In fact, you’ll be lucky to get half that much. By the same token, many savvy individuals are not going to be willing to give you their cash in exchange for a gift card because it’s unlikely that you can prove how much money is actually on that card. Unless you plan on standing there beside them and calling the customer service number so they can verify it, you’re not likely to make a sale by posting unwanted gift cards on Facebook.
If re-gifting them isn’t an option and you can’t really sell them, what are you supposed to do with the gift cards you don’t want? Fortunately, you might be able to make some money by using a service called Cardyard. They specialise in purchasing unwanted gift cards. Granted, you’re not going to make exactly the same value of the card itself here, either. That said, it is a way for you to get rid of unwanted gift cards without simply throwing them away. Better yet, you have an opportunity to make some money off of them as opposed to getting nothing at all.
Cardyard works like this. If you have a card that is worth £50, you can sell it to them for approximately £43. They do payments through PayPal and they guarantee their services. Cardyard is completely legitimate so you don’t have to worry about loosing money. However, it is important to note that even though they do payments through PayPal, you shouldn’t expect those payments right away. It all comes down to their need to verify the value of the gift card before they can sell it to someone else. As such, there is a certain amount of time that it takes to do so and you will have to wait to get your money while they verify things. Typically, you’ll get paid in about seven days, provided you haven’t exposed the PIN number on the card. If that PIN number has been exposed, it takes a bit longer to verify everything. In cases like these, it can take up to two weeks for you to receive your payment.
Once you get your payment through PayPal, you can use that money just like you would use any other form of payment through the service. As such, you have the option of keeping the money in your PayPal account or transferring it electronically to your bank. Once that happens, you actually have cash in your bank account as opposed to a gift card that you can’t use or don’t want. The fact that you’re working with a legitimate company that has a good track record is vitally important. If you have gift cards that you’re not really excited about using, it may be time to consider selling them on Cardyard so you can recoup some of that money.
